Ready to Train People Online? Read this first!
What does it take to start training people online? Mark Smith describes his experience moving to an online platform.
I am, and always have been, a people person. I am extremely extroverted and thrive on the energy I get from being around others. This is one of the reasons I was drawn to coaching in the first place: the people.
Through coaching clients I have made many wonderful friendships and relationships. I have had the pleasure of watching individuals not only grow in strength and mobility, but also in character.
Working with clients is the ultimate investment of one’s self. You pour your passion, energy, knowledge and exuberance into an individual or a group of individuals. You are there to catch the mistakes and correct them, ensuring the safety of the individual. You grow with them, get to know them, learn about who they are.
For years I was hesitant to do any online platform based training. I always had trouble reconciling the dissonance between being on screen and being in front of a warm body.
“How will I know they are doing it right?” “What if there is something they don’t understand?” “How can I uphold the integrity of who I am as a coach while running an online business?” These are some of the questions I wrestled with, and to be honest, still do at times.
Awake and Alive
In May of 2016 Mike DiCrocce of Awake and Alive approached me with the idea of putting together a content-based website. He said, “The camera loves you!” That seemed like a good enough sales pitch for me (I had been wanting to make the leap to online for a while, so it didn’t take much nudging).
By July we decided to start shooting exercise tutorials and making a member portal where we could have clients from all over the world train with us. I knew this was what I had been wanting to do for all these years, to reach a greater audience and multiply myself.
The more time I spent in front of the camera the easier it became. I felt I was connecting with an audience, even though there was no one there.
This was very important to me because I have always liked making a connection with my clients. As the videos and programs came together we had a product that I could proudly put my name on.
What was really awesome about the process was how fast it happened from idea to manifestation and how it continues to grow. Awake and Alive now has channels for others coaches to add their content to, which is perfect if you are like me and have thought about it for years but not made the next step to go from studio to the internet.
I have found a whole new set of skills by doing an online platform as well. Skills I refer to as “desk monkey” skills. I used to be kind of a numbat when it came to computers but now I have the skills of a 24 year old gamer living in his parents basement (yeah, I know what I’m doing now).
Awake and Alive has given me a new freedom. Moving to an online training platform opens the future to spend more time with family and friends, increase passive income, and connect with a world wide client base that I can still HELP get better than they were before they began training with me.
I am able to get people all over the world moving again, playing again, and becoming strong! Though I drug my feet for many years, it is freaking awesome now that I have started putting content online. I encourage any of you thinking about it to consider it, and feel free to contact me if you have questions, I am always happy to help.
